On this page we hope to have information for youth on what type of resources are available to them if they, or a friend of theirs, has a problem with alcohol or drugs.
We would like to have meeting times, locations and a brief summary of the different programs. We will also be posting information on detox centers for youth in Vancouver as well as counselors and alternative recreational activities.
We have more research to do for this, but we also hope to have information on the effects of different drugs, the dangers and the drinking limits for people (based on their body weight) if they plan to be driving.
- What you need to know about drugs and alcohol - no preaching just the
- facts
Drug users lose money-alot of it-to adults and other youth whose goal is to make money. Between 1983 and 1985, the RCMP alone seized $30 million in cash and drugs. Adult criminals use vulnerable young people to make more money. They deliberately create and exploit drug dependencies among young people who will then do anythings to keep their own supply of drugs coming. This is one of the ways both girls and boys get into prostitution. Many young people do things they thought they would never do in order to get money for drugs. Drugs like cocaine are so addictive-and expensive-that regular use often depends on criminal activity like burglary or stealing from family members. You don't know what you are taking. Drug suppliers don't care what happens to you. If they can make more money by mixing other substances in with a drug, they will. Mistakes can happen easily-mistakes that can cost you your life. Canadian teenagers have found ways to encourage each other not to use drugs or at least not drive if they have been using drugs. Through programs such as Safe Grad and SADD (Students against Drunk Driving), they are preventing death and injury caused by young drivers intoxicated by alcohol and drugs.
